The Columbus Community Pool was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Louisa County for their pool replacement project. This $1.6 million project was created in order to replace the 50-year-old pool that no longer has adequate space for recreational activities. The organization has created a charitable project fund for the grant to continue to financially support this project. Donated funds up to $300, or $600 for married couples, are able to be considered as tax deductible contributions. Community Foundation of Louisa County Executive Director Paula Buckman says this grant was funded through their endowment fund and hopes individuals will consider donating to this community project.

Pool Committee Member Scott Dennler says the Columbus Junction City Council agreed to match any donations made by the Columbus Community School District, who owns the pool, up to $250,000. He also says due to a lack of grants awarded to the project due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project’s groundbreaking might have to be pushed back past the original fall 2021 date.
